Dr. Scott Ruth received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Arizona in 1979, and his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University in 1984. After graduation he worked for three years in a busy full-service veterinary clinic in Mesa, Arizona. He then worked for two and a half years in the busiest emergency clinic in Arizona while also filling in as a "relief veterinarian" for several veterinary clinics in the Phoenix area.

The wide variety of medical and surgical challenges he encountered during this six year period gave Dr. Scott valuable experience that has been an asset ever since. In 1990 he began working with the Humane Society of Southern Arizona in Tucson.

Dr. Scott has performed high volume spay/neuter surgery ever since, and has surgically sterilized over 130,000 dogs, cats, rabbits and pot-bellied pigs. In 1992 he began performing early-age sterilization surgery of puppies and kittens, laying the foundations for the enormously successful surgery programs at the two shelters in Tucson. Dr. Scott has individually trained other high volume spay/neuter surgeons from around the world, and has participated in seminars aimed at teaching veterinarians rapid surgical sterilization methods.

In addition to surgery, Dr. Scott has appeared in the media as a consultant regarding pet health issues and suspected animal cruelty cases. He has also presented lectures to local, national and international groups about pet care, vaccine theory, surgical techniques, zoonotic diseases and feral cat issues.

Dr. Scott is owned by one large cat who insists on leaning on him while she sleeps.
